It seems to be working normally, but I have the impression that it just does not work as it should when I start playing files. But if I open any file in my media library directly in Kodi browsing the share, it opens right away, no delay at all.Įmby server on Shield is not 'official' so to speak, its not in the Play store, I need to manually install it. Kodi just spins, no player shows up, and then it just pops back to the Kodi GUI. After a little more testing, nothing can be played. What happened was this: After reinstalling, I could not play a 4K HDR file, but 1080p HDR etc could be played. And I have a sneaky suspicion that the Emby server and/or the Next-gen addon simply do not work on/with the Shield Emby server. I did some more testing late last night (again until past 2 AM sigh.). I just wish Emby / Kodi integration would have worked better.Īny advice, comments etc? It may very well be that I have set something up wrong, but it should be pretty straight forward. I can also use the Plex client on both my TV and Shield, but that will of course use the Plex server. Then I just give up at like 2 AM, in frustration.Īnyone else had problems like this? Is it related to the Emby-Next-Gen addon?Īs I see it right now, the easiest way to use Kodi as client is remove the Emby addon, and just add my media shares as sources in Kodi, and just use Emby as a media scanner/organizer (does not bother me that Kodi also will keep a local copy of arts etc). I tried to set up the Emby-Next-Gen addon in both modes, one is direct and one is via Emby (or something like that, question when installing the addon). I try also to browse my media share directly in Kodi due to they are set up as shares in the Shield settings menu, and this works right away. I had to uninstall and reinstall the Emby-Next-Gen addon to get those to show up.īut what I then notice is that I am not able to play anything via the Emby-Next-Gen addon in Kodi, it just keeps spinning then exit back to Kodi. Plex clients on my TV and Shield picks this up, after a bit, and looks to be ok.īut in Kodi, I am not able to get the new libraries show up in My Media, no matter what. Then I add 2 new libraries/folders to both Emby and Plex. I install it, and it looks to be working ok. Then last night I wanted to try out Emby-addon again, and found out I need to use Emby-next-gen add on for Kodi 19. This works flawless as I can see, just use Kodi as a client, not via the Emby server, but the Emby server is the one scanning, saving metadata and art etc (all stored locally in media folders). I have tested to just use Kodi directly just pointing to the media directories that also contains all art etc. Since the Emby client is payed, and also not the best, I prefer to use Kodi as the client. I have Kodi 19 installed on the Shield also. I have used Emby server for many years, but for a while it was down due to PC problems.įor a few months back I installed both Emby and Plex on my nVidia Shield (2015 model). I tried to post this in the Emby reddit, but not sure what happened, its like its not posted, and that reddit is almost dead. For discussion of those add-ons, feel free to visit /r/Addons4Kodi.
