![]() I'm certain that either fork will be a big upgrade over the Dart-3, especially with the 29x3 tires. It could just be that the Machete wasn't well set up for me or that you can't really tell that much about a fork by ramming it over a curb. I was only able to ride the Stache 5 on pavement, while I got to take the Stache 7 through some non-trail off road areas that at least had some decent rooty and bumpy sections. Everybody says that the Yaris is much nicer than the Machete and in my limited testing, I would not disagree with that.Does anybody have any better experience with an Eagle setup? I'd really like to keep my bike as low maintenance as possible and monthly derailleur adjustments are very unappealing to me.It just had lots of intermittent trouble sticking to a gear. When I test rode a Stache 7 I had issues with shifting, which is what made me start to look into the reliability of the NX setup to begin with.So I think I actually prefer the 1x10 Deore drivetrain to the 1x12 NX drivetrain, even though the 1x12 is nicer, newer and (presumably) more expensive. I would much rather have a reliable 10 speed transmission than a 12 speed that could get messed up on any given ride. While 12 gears sounds great to me, I also keep reading that the SRAM Eagle is very susceptible & sensitive to the hanger/derailleur coming out of alignment. Differences between 5 and 7 that I care about:.Lots of up & down with mostly shorter climbs/descents.Riding area is upstate NY, between Ithaca/Binghamton.26"x2.3" tires, V-Brakes, 3x8 drivetrain: Deore rear, Alivio front, Rockshox Dart-3 Coil Fork, No dropper.I'm a relatively novice rider, I've been riding for ~10 years but never seriously or consistently. They are probably way more than anyone wants to read, so I highlighted the more important bits. I've include my many notes below, for clarification on what I'm thinking. This thread has some related info: Sram Eagle 1x12 - īasically, I'd prefer the less fancy, more reliable Deore 1x10 if the sensitivity of the Eagle 1x12 derailleur is not overblown. I have some concerns about the amount of maintenance the NX Eagle 1x12 drivetrain on the 7 will need though. ![]() Normally, this would just be a "are the upgrades worth the price" question, and the answer would be more or less "spend the extra money if you can afford it". Now I'm trying to decide between the 5 and 7. I've pretty much decided on a Trek Stache. Hi, I'm looking into upgrading my 10 year old mountain bike to something newer, more fun and that will help to mask my overall lack of real skill.
